The Cannabis Framework Project was established to help guide that journey in a pragmatic, solution-focused way. Our work brings together cannabis advocates, business leaders, policymakers, medical professionals and consumers to derive practical strategies for achieving cannabis’ mainstream potential while honoring its cultural legacy. The frameworks and models we build aim for applicability and real-world implementation.

Our initial undertaking focuses on developing an intuitive classification system and standardized nomenclature for cannabis strains based on their specific compounds, flavors, aromas and effects. This project incorporates insights from cannabis experts, chemists, doctors and consumer research to publish a simplified taxonomy that producers and brands can adopt voluntarily to better serve both patients and recreational consumers in this newly legal market.

Future policy frameworks will provide guidance on best practices for sustaining environmentally ethical scaling of this industry and recommended standards for product quality, testing, packaging and labeling to build consumer trust.
